East Greenwich Community Festivals
EAST GREENWICH community leaders are organising a FREE summer festival to celebrate the Olympics and deliver a lasting local community legacy. Everyone is welcome!
The East Greenwich Community Festivals are a series of FREE events
taking place across around East Greenwich and the Peninsula this summer.
The highlight of the free Festival programme will be a 2 day '1948 Themed'
Festival Fete which will take place over the mid-weekend of the Olympics on
the 4th & 5th August in East Greenwich Pleasaunce (an historic public park just
off Chevening Road).
The Fete promises a packed programme of events to suit all tastes! Live
bands are scheduled all day Saturday and Sunday and include headlining
trio the Deptford Rivieras playing funky-bluesy-jazzy-soul and ska. Band
members currently play with Jools Holland, Madness, Paul Weller and Oo-
Bop-Sh’Bam. As well as a great live band line-up, there will be lots of other
performances, 40 market stalls, an art market & gallery, a beauty & well-
being zone, a food & drink zone with the likes of local favourites Giggly Pig
and London Fields Brewery, A vintage tea & games tent, a cake competition
judged by Blackheath Cooks including a ‘1940s rations style bake’ category,
a kids disco, a competition for ‘best dressed 1948er’, Muttleys Kitchen fun
dog show and with the help of the children's shop Ottie and the Bea we will
be putting on a number of children's workshops and events as well as building
a cardboard cityscape of Greenwich. The Fete finishes on Sunday afternoon
with a combined church service with full choir accompaniment.
Organisers have launched a special campaign called ‘Get Involved!’
encouraging people to sign up to participate in the summer programme of
events. They’re especially looking for performers, schools, musicians, artists,
bakers, craft makers, dancers, food and drink sellers and market stall traders.
Volunteers are also needed to help with events such as the dog show, setting
up the cake competition, helping the production team and general stewarding.
People can express their interest to participate by completing an online
sign up form at www.bit.ly/egcfsign, or can sign up in person at information
boards at Pistachio’s Cafe in East Greenwich Pleasaunce or in Greenwich
Communication Centre at 164 Trafalgar Road, East Greenwich.
The festival programme is a partnership project created by Stream Arts, East Greenwich Business Association, the Greenwich Society, the Friends of the East Greenwich Pleasaunce and the parish of East Greenwich. It’s hoped the festival will create a legacy fund for the community of East Greenwich and the foundation for producing a fantastic free summer festival every year. Anyone who would like to contribute their thoughts on what legacy projects should be achieved from the festival, please give your view at: http://bit.ly/ EGPLegacy

The East Greenwich Community Festivals Programme was initiated in 2011 by a group of passionate locals, each of whom represented a local community group, who were dedicated to create greater community cohesion in East Greenwich in 2012 and beyond.
The wider objective of the festival is to bring the local community together through a programme of celebratory events where we also welcome visitors, appreciate our local environment, support local businesses and make East Greenwich an even better place to be and enjoy.
Our target is to raise £100,000 in sponsorship to cover the costs of hosting this free festival in 2012 and to secure the future of the festival as a permanent fixture in the Royal Greenwich summer events calendar.
If you would like to make a financial donation to support the festival, please use the secure paypal button below or post a cheque to Stream Arts Ltd (EGCF Project), Rothbury Hall, Azof Street, Greenwich. SE10 0EF.
All donations will be very gratefully received. Any questions about the festival or to request more information please email: egcfest@gmail.com
